Week 8 – Journal Club

Journal club will be held at Amanda’s house!

8507 Kallison arbor
San Antonio, TX 78254

The theme for this quarter’s journal club will be to focus on the process of critical research appraisal. We have chosen both good and bad articles and the goal in discussion will be to determine and discuss which articles fall in which category and why.

The schedule will roughly be as follows:
1700-1730: Meet/greet/food
1730-1830: Small group discussion and breakout
1830 until done: Large group discussion
Mentor family time after large group discussion

Roles for reviewing the articles will largely stay the same:
EM1: Big overview of the paper, PICO (if original study)
EM2: Comparison/dissection of methodology & implications for accepting conclusions
EM3: Key takeaways, applicable recommendations/treatments, how is this going to change your
practice?

We will split into four pre-determined groups. See groups here. Please come prepared having read the articles assigned to your group. While not required, you are encouraged to skim the articles in the other groups. This will likely make the large group discussion of what determines high quality research more high yield. Additionally the articles in Group 3/4 have optional supplemental materials found here if you would like additional context!

Remember Journal Club counts towards Grand Rounds attendance!
