Week 18 – Operational Day

Who:  All EM residents and EM PA students who are scheduled to attend GR day of

What:  MDOC grand rounds day.  Topics:  TCCC, FWB/WBB, and pt movement w/ and w/o litters.  Followed by self-survey given by ISR.

Where:  SMTS/FOB Courage

(The service is bad out by Camp Bullis but if you put “FOB Courage” into Google Maps it should take you to the right place”)

When:  09 NOV 2023, SP 0945 until 1400

Why:  to develop and preserve the unique education of military GME and nest our training objectives within our commander’s intent to maintain an operationally and medically ready force.

UOD: OCP uniform or roughs.  Roughs are generally considered to be some civilian equivalent version of OCP.  Long pants (cargo pants/adventure pants) and usually T-shirt or button down shirt. For this exercise, regular T shirts are authorized given the high likelihood of mud or moulage exposure.  No athleisure/yoga pants.  If this is abused, we will have to go back to just OCP for uniform.

Transfusion of Dr. Shauer:  Training video for warm, fresh, whole blood transfusion procedures – YouTube

WBB process video:  JTF-B Medel – Emergency Walking Blood Donor Program – YouTube

– This is a decent video of how the entire process can work.  As always, METT-TC, but it is a decent flow.  One caveat, the narrator mentions only using type specific and matching donor to patient.  This is up for discussion (the alternative is using Type O that is with unknown titer level).  Reference JTS CPG and theatre guidance when you deploy.
