Journal Club Goals and Expectations
- Find your group below and the assigned material to review.
- Everyone will read one paper, and each group will then read one paper unique to their own groups. We will then have a large group discussion covering the paper assigned to everyone, and then go through our standard presentation for the papers assigned to individual groups. The theme will be Matching in Research. Make sure to be able to identify the type of Matching used in your assigned papers. Remember the goal of journal club is to teach critical appraisal, not just review cutting edge research.
- Projected Schedule:
- 0950-1000: Arrival/split into groups
- 1000-1200: Small group discussion
- 1200-1230: Lunch (food will be provided) and VEA Introduction
- 1230-1400: Large Group Discussion
- PGY Level Assignment/Goals
- EM1: Big overview of the paper, and if applicable epidemiology/definitions/diagnosis/workup and PICO (if original study)
- EM2: Key takeaways, what to focus on, and if applicable recommendations/treatments
- EM3: How is this going to change your practice?
- Set Discussion Questions
- 1) What type of Matching is used in your paper
- 2) Are there any strengths or limitations to the type of matching the authors selected?
- 3) Are there any strengths or limitations to how this study is designed?
